Throughout the last year the School Administrators Alliance has done a comprehensive examination of our legislative work on behalf of education leaders across Wisconsin. To date, we have been relatively successful in shaping the design of proposed legislation as well as stopping potentially damaging policy ideas. However, this approach is increasingly challenged and our effectiveness limited due to the prevalence of ideologically-based legislation without reasoned justification or facts to back it up. We have determined to invest our energy in a new approach to advocacy in an effort to change the conversation from an ideologically-based endeavor to an evidence-based discussion. At the same time, we are moving to engage a broader community in the dialogue about the value of public schools and the effects of current education policy on local schools.
